Description

A comforting breakfast casserole made with croissants, sausage, and a creamy custard, perfect for brunch gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1.25 lb croissants, cut into 1-inch chunks
  • 0.8 lb sausage
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/2 red pepper, finely chopped
  • 1/2 green pepper, finely chopped
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1.25 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups gruyere cheese
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.75 tsp pepper
  • 0.25 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.25 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1.5 tbsp unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat, add sausage, and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add chopped onion, red pepper, and green pepper; sauté for about 5 minutes until soft.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.
  5. In a baking dish, layer croissant chunks, then sprinkle cooked sausage and vegetables, followed by gruyere cheese.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the layers, soaking all croissant pieces.
  7. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.
  8. In the morning, bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and set.
  9. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve with a fresh side salad or fruit platter for a complete meal. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or freeze for longer storage.
