Description

A comforting breakfast casserole that combines the classic flavors of French toast into a simple and satisfying dish, perfect for family gatherings or weekends.

Ingredients

  • ½ a loaf of French bread (about 8 oz) cut into cubes
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon (divided)
  • 1 Tablespoon brown sugar (for topping)
  • Powdered sugar for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F and grease a 13×9 inch baking pan with butter.
  2. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat, then add the brown sugar and stir until smooth.
  3. Pour the butter and brown sugar mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
  4. Sprinkle the bread cubes over the mixture, spreading them evenly.
  5. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are saturated.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining teaspoon of cinnamon and the tablespoon of brown sugar over the top.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired, slice, and enjoy!

Notes

Use stale bread for better texture, and consider adding fresh fruits or nuts for toppings.
