Description
I have shared my best combination for cold weather but make adjustments to suit your taste.
Ingredients
- 2¼ cups water
- 1 tablespoon ginger (or ½ tablespoon for lighter flavor), crushed or grated
- 1 inch cinnamon stick or ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder
- 2 teaspoons green tea or tea bags
- 4-6 drops lemon juice, or to taste
- 1½ tablespoon honey or preferred sweetener
Instructions
- Fill two cups of water to the brim and pour into a pot or kettle. Bring to a boil.
- Add freshly grated or crushed ginger and cinnamon. Simmer on medium heat for 5 minutes.
- Add green tea. Cover and turn off heat. Let steep for 3–4 minutes. Reheat if needed.
- Add honey and lemon juice to each cup. Strain the tea into cups. Stir and enjoy.
Notes
If making without sweetener, reduce ginger to prevent it from tasting too spicy.
You can substitute 2 teaspoons of ginger powder for fresh, but fresh is preferred.
Optional herbs and spices to enhance flavor:
- 10 mint leaves
- ¼–½ teaspoon cardamom powder or 3–4 pods, crushed
- ½ tablespoon fennel seeds
- 1 tablespoon fresh turmeric or ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
