Description

A delicious layered breakfast casserole combining bread, eggs, cheese, and sausage, perfect for gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of bread, cubed
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 cup chopped vegetables (like bell peppers, onions, or spinach)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon mustard (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and optional ingredients like mustard and garlic powder.
  2. In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer the cubed bread, cooked sausage, vegetables, and cheese.
  3. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the top.
  4. Cover the dish and refrigerate overnight.
  5. The next morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Bake uncovered for 45-55 minutes or until the casserole is set and the top is golden brown.
  7. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Use stale bread for the best texture. Experiment with different cheeses and spices to suit your taste.
